Why We Shoot Home Videos

I frequently read “The Latest in Technology from David Pogue”.  David, who is a journalist for the New York Times, has a good perspective on technology, and I enjoy his writing style and respect his views.
He delivered an excellent post today — that is right up my power alley.  I thought I would share it, and […]

JVC to Kill Standalone VCRs

It appears at long last JVC will stop producing standalone VHS VCRs, made from Victor Company of Japan, after a 32-year run. Not a bad lifespan in the technology world.
The company said it will still keep pumping out combo units, with three-in-one HDD/DVD/VCR and DVD/VCR players so people can at least watch old home movies and […]

Personalize Your Video Camera

The Internet and advances in printing technology made it possible for consumers to design and order their own posters, mugs, books and T-shirts.  Consumer electronics companies — even sneaker companies — offer music players, shoes or computers with personally selected designs or colors.
Now you can personalize your video camera. Pure Digital Technologies, which makes the […]

While cell phones were once well known as a critical device for business communications needs, it seems as though they’re now no longer popular for this use solely.  As more and more users turn to their cell phone for entertainment purposes rather than business needs, it is quickly becoming the ‘must-have’ consumer gadget.
A new survey […]

Upconverting DVD vs. Blu-ray Disc

A lot of new DVD players have emerged lately that “upconvert” a standard DVD image — creating more clarity, and looking a whole lot better on modern HD TVs.
So, isn’t upconverted DVD just as good as Blu-ray Disc — the new HD standard for optical disc home entertainment? Well, there’s high-def and there’s true high-def. […]

The next thing: Geotagging photos

As more people take pictures on digital cameras, there’s a growing interest in making sure that those pictures are geotagged — or tagged by the exact location where the photo was taken. When pictures contain location information, they could be easier to sort and find in personal photo software like iPhoto or in an online memories […]

Blu-ray Disc Hardware Not Picking Up Steam

Sales indicate consumers aren’t racing to Blu-ray just yet.
The consumer market was very happy to switch from VHS to DVD, but it appears that the transition to high-definition media isn’t being met with the same enthusiasm.
Any stunted growth of the high-definition generation was previously attributed to the ongoing format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc. […]

Consumers fail to back up large digital libraries

Whether it be digital photos or digital home movies, the mass of digital content under management at the typical U.S. household is simply enormous. And this is only the beginning as content creation and acquisition ramps further.
The net result is a massive number of digital files requiring storage and management. And one would assume, given the […]
