About Ruk

iMemories—the amazingly fun and easy service we’ve built around rescuing old family films and home videos—is more than a business, it’s a true passion. It’s all about giving consumers a brand they can trust to do this important work right the first time.

We want to be THE service brand people think about when they want to take their home movies from old media to digital. We’re building that trust every day by delivering ultra-high quality products. . . hassle free. That’s our mantra.

I created this blog to explain where we’ve been—and to keep an eye on the trends up ahead. There’s a neat intersection where video, the Internet, and consumer technology are all coming together, and it’s exciting to be in the middle of it.

I often get asked how we started in this business. After all, lots of people like family home movies—but not enough to get into the nitty-gritty of working with brittle film reels and aging videotape. But for me, getting these great old memories back into a format that families can enjoy, organize, share and laugh over is the best reason to come to work every day.

I’ve been involved with home movies since I was a kid—making them, watching them with my family and eventually editing them with the latest digital technology. That internal internet, combined with 15 years of experience as a so-called “serial entrepreneur” creating successful technology companies, has made the creation of iMemories a very logical choice.

We’re inspired by the growth in the industry and the now red-hot popularity of digital video—personal digital media, consumer-generated content, social media and social networking. Web 2.0 technologies are giving iMemories the power to finally execute all of our ideas.

It’s amazing to think that we couldn’t have existed even five years ago. The technology just wasn’t available that would enable us to operate at the quality and service level we’ve achieved today. The mainstreaming of broadband access…DVD player proliferation…advances in software and digital editing technology . . . bigger, better and cheaper data storage. All of these elements have come together to make iMemories possible. We’re creating the perfect solution—right on time. And that’s what we’re all about.

I have had a colorful life so far. Born in 1966, grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and landed in Arizona when I started at Arizona State University.  Received a B.S. degree in marketing, made a brief but valuable start working for pharmaceutical giant Merck, and then started on my formal entreprenuerial path which has led to three organic-growth technology startups. Along the way, I married a beautiful Oklahoma native, had a wonderful daughter, and chose to make Arizona my home.
