Consumers Struggle with New Digital Camcorder Technology

I read this post in the USA Today, about a consumer who is struggling with his new HD digital video camcorder. He has all of the latest entertainment equipment — HD TV, HD-based Blue-ray Disc player, and he wants to experience his personal home movies in HD quality using all of his new entertainment equipment. He runs into one of the gotchas associated with HD video — incompatibility with the video output from the camera, his video editing software and his disc equipment.

I hear this all of the time from our customers at iMemories. It’s a real problem for modern consumers purchasing the latest in digital video camcorders.

Consumers just want stuff to ‘work’, and they don’t want to spend hours (or days) struggling through the hassle of compatibility issues or other technical struggles.

Bottom line, digital video is extremely fun, powerful — and beautiful, but, modern technology related to digital video and optical disc publishing (DVD and Blue-ray Disc) is over the head of most consumers. Meaning, this equipment sets the consumer up to “do it themselves” and most can’t. There are just too many complexities involved.

That’s one of the key reasons we created iMemories. We felt there was a large unmet need to help mainstream consumers with their modern digital camcorders - as most don’t have the time, the skill or the technology to do it themselves. And, frankly, most people don’t want to do it themselves. They just want to enjoy and share the memories. Consumers need a premium online video service to provide simple uploading of video along with hassle free ordering of DVDs and Blue-ray Discs of the family home movies. That’s the unique online video sharing and publishing solution only available at iMemories.
